Wet neck.

Here's a strange occurrence: Apple Vale Empress seems to be having difficulty holding her drink - in the last few days she's acquired this wet neck. She doesn't seem to be drinking significantly more than usual. I've felt her jaw and checked her teeth, and all is normal. On two successive evenings, when sitting, her chest appeared to be heaving quicker than usual - we checked her faecal sample, and all was normal - she is bright, grazing, and eats her supplement in the morning. It may be due to a water bucket which is hanging on a fence a little higher than other buckets, causing her to drink with her head higher than usual, but then why isn't Elstar similar, when she is even shorter?

  1. I wouldn't worry Dave, Empress may just be too warm in her winter coat! Several of ours, especially those with heavy coats allow the water to run from their mouths down their fronts...seems to keep them cool although it doesn't make them look very "cool"! Some just adore getting wet, whenever and however they can manage it...she could be in either camp!

  2. We also have a couple who dribble down their necks when it is warm.

  3. Ours constantly 'lie' across the trough to drink when the summer hits here, intentionally getting as much of their neck and chest in the water as possible! :) Lisa

  4. Don't worry Dave, we have a couple who do that and always have a long wet beard.

  5. Ditto here...it's usually one of the show team who you especially want to look smart!

  6. And ditto here. Some of our boys lie near the water trays in warm weather with their necks outstretched and seem to specifically get the undersides of their chins wet. Shirley & Robbie
